IT’S ALL ABOUT THE HONEY GARLIC SAUCE
The spicy, salty, and sticky sauce is what makes this dish so delicious. While honey and garlic are the primary flavors, other ingredients elevate the dish to a delicious level.
- Honey: Adds a gummy, sugary texture and taste to the sauce.
- Soy Sauce Tamari: Since I can't have gluten, I've switched to tamari soy sauce. Nevertheless, coconut aminos can be substituted with soy sauce if you want.
- Garlic and Ginger: A perfect pair of aromatics that packs a powerful flavor punch.
- Pepper, Red, Crushed: You only need a pinch to add some spice to your life.
- To top it all off, some finely diced herbs and sliced green onion are perfect.
LET’S MAKE HONEY GARLIC SHRIMP
- Cook up some sauce. Honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes are combined in a small bowl and stirred.
- Now is the time to marinade! Combine a third of the sauce with the shrimp in a separate bowl and toss to coat. Wait 15 to 20 minutes before eating.
- Preparing the shrimp. Oil should be heated in a pan over medium heat. Shrimp should be added and cooked for 1–2 minutes per side, or until pink.
- Wait for the sauce to reduce. The remaining two-thirds of the sauce should be added to the pan and simmered. As it boils down, add the shrimp and stir to combine.
HOW TO DEVEIN SHRIMP
- It's time to peel the shrimp. To peel a shrimp, begin at the head and work your way down to the tail. It's up to you if you want to cut off the tail.
- Make a slit next to the vein. Keep the shrimp's back facing up when holding it. Then, with a little knife, make a slit along the black vein that's about a quarter of an inch deep.
- Find and remove the vein. Carefully scrape the dark vein out with the tip of the knife. So long!
TURN THIS SINGLE RECIPE INTO A VARIETY OF SHRIMP MEALS
While a rice plate with the standard toppings is always a safe bet, mixing things up with bowls and wraps may keep your weeknight meals fresh and exciting.
- Dinner Plate: Sauteed greens like spinach, and serve alongside fresh rice or cauliflower rice.
- Bowl: Add heaps of green onion and roasted broccoli or other roasted vegetables and serve over rice or grains.
- Wrap: Trim the carbs from the shrimp by wrapping them in butter leaf lettuce with bean sprouts and sliced green onions. You're going to adore this new flavor combination.
- Serve these honey garlic shrimp whichever you choose, but don't forget the additional sauce!
GOT LEFTOVERS? HERE’S HOW TO STORE
- To keep: This shrimp is so tasty that it's hard to eat just one. However, if you do have leftovers, an airtight container in the refrigerator will keep them fresh for three to four days.
- They may be reheated in a microwave for about a minute, or in a skillet over medium heat, until hot and delicious again. The shrimp will turn rubbery if you reheat them for too long.
Additional Tips
Use fresh, large shrimp: Fresh, large shrimp will give you the best flavor and texture for your honey garlic shrimp dish. Look for shrimp that are plump, firm, and have a bright color.
Marinate the shrimp: To get the most flavor out of your honey garlic shrimp, marinate the shrimp for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will allow the flavors to penetrate the shrimp and give it a delicious taste.
Use fresh garlic: Fresh garlic has a more intense flavor than garlic powder or pre-chopped garlic. If possible, use fresh garlic in your honey garlic shrimp recipe.
