For those with lactose intolerance or who are environmentally conscious, the rise in popularity of milk alternatives has been a welcome trend. From oat milk to almond milk to soy milk to banana milk, there are countless options to choose from. But hemp milk stands out for its exceptional nutrition profile.
Look no farther than hemp milk if you are seeking for a delectable and healthful substitute for dairy or nut-based milk. Hemp seeds and water are the only two components needed to make this plant-based milk. A naturally light and nutty milk that may be consumed on its own or used in recipes is the end product. Hemp seeds are a rich source of healthy fats, high-quality plant protein, and vital minerals.
These tiny seeds may be easily made at home into milk to produce a creamy and wholesome beverage. And if you prefer a sweeter taste, you can add a touch of sweetener and vanilla extract for a delicious and fresh twist. So why not give hemp milk a try? It's a simple and tasty way to add more plant-based nutrition to your diet.
How To Make Homemade Hemp Milk
With just a few simple steps, you can have a delicious and nutritious plant-based milk in no time. Not only is it easy to make, but it's also a great alternative to store-bought options that may contain additives or preservatives.
- To start, gather your ingredients. You will need hemp seeds, water, and any sweeteners or flavorings you prefer.
- It's important to use a high-powered blender to ensure a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Next, add the hemp seeds and water (plus any sweeteners) to the blender.
- Blend on high for about a minute, or until the mixture is completely smooth.
- You can adjust the consistency by adding more or less water, depending on your preference.
- Once blended, pour the hemp milk into a storage container and refrigerate.
- It will keep in the fridge for up to five days, so you can enjoy it throughout the week. It's perfect for adding to smoothies, coffee, or cereal, or simply drinking on its own.
Not only is homemade hemp milk a delicious and healthy option, but it's also a great way to reduce waste and save money. By making your own plant-based milk at home, you can avoid unnecessary packaging and reduce your carbon footprint. So why not give it a try and see how easy and delicious it can be?
Do You Need to Strain Hemp Milk?
While straining your homemade hemp milk isn't necessary, it can help to achieve a smoother and creamier consistency. Unlike almond milk, which typically requires straining to remove the gritty pulp, hemp milk is naturally creamy and the seeds blend almost entirely in the blender. However, you may still notice a bit of pulp settling at the bottom of your glass. If you prefer a completely smooth texture, simply strain the milk through a nut milk bag or fine mesh strainer before pouring it into your storage container.
This will help to remove any remaining bits of seed and ensure a silky-smooth texture. Using a nut milk bag is a simple and effective way to strain your hemp milk. Simply place the bag over a large bowl or pitcher and pour the blended mixture into the bag. Gently squeeze the bag to extract as much milk as possible, then discard the pulp.
Making Flavored Milk
I absolutely love the natural earthy taste of hemp milk. However, if you're like me and looking to switch things up, there are plenty of ways to add more flavor. Here are some of my favorite ideas:
- First, you can try making vanilla hemp milk by adding 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, honey, or three dates.
- This combination adds a sweet and creamy vanilla flavor to the milk that's perfect for drinking on its own or adding to recipes.
- Another option is to make chocolate hemp milk by blending in 1 tablespoon of cacao powder and 1 tablespoon of sweetener.
- This gives the milk a rich and decadent chocolate flavor that's perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth or using in recipes like smoothies or hot cocoa.
- Finally, for a refreshing and energizing twist, you can add 1 heaped tablespoon of matcha powder and 1 tablespoon of sweetener to your hemp milk.
- This creates a delicious matcha hemp milk that's perfect for starting your day or sipping as a midday pick-me-up.
How long does it last?
In the fridge, homemade hemp milk keeps for up to five days. To ensure optimal freshness, it would be better to consume during the first two to three days. However, you may pour it onto a silicone ice cube tray and freeze it for later use. After that, you can incorporate these cubes into your upcoming chia seed pudding or strawberry banana smoothie!
