Deviled eggs with avocado are a quick, delightful twist on the traditional dish. Just pile avocado, red onion, lime juice, and cilantro on top of hard-boiled eggs. This would be the result if Guacamole and Deviled Eggs, two of my greatest dishes, had a kid!
I absolutely love deviled eggs as a healthy appetizer and snack recipe. However, sometimes I feel like switching things up a bit. As you may have seen before, I have combined eggs and avocado to create some amazing dishes. For example, I once transformed my classic Egg Salad recipe into Avocado Egg Salad. And now, I'm excited to share my latest creation - a guacamole inspired deviled egg that incorporates avocado into my reader favorite deviled eggs recipe.
Trust me, this recipe is incredibly easy to make, delicious, and has a vibrant green color that will make your guests' mouths water!
Avocado Deviled Eggs Ingredients
I'm excited to share that this recipe only calls for a handful of wholesome ingredients, making it both delicious and nutritious. Here's what you will need:
- Hard Boiled Eggs: Start by boiling perfect hard boiled eggs to achieve a firm white and solid yolk.
- Red Onion: I love the bright pop of color and texture that red onions bring to the dish.
- Garlic Powder: You can use garlic powder for a mellow garlic flavor or minced garlic for a stronger taste.
- Avocado: A ripe avocado adds natural creaminess to the dish.
- Lime Juice: While you could use lemon juice, I prefer the zesty taste of lime juice in this recipe.
- Cilantro: My personal favorite herb, cilantro, adds that guacamole-like flavor that makes this recipe stand out.
- Salt and Pepper: Don't forget to season with salt and pepper to enhance the flavor.
These avocado deviled eggs have a creamy and mild flavor, making them perfect for kids. However, if you prefer a spicier kick, you could add finely diced jalapeno, sriracha, chili powder, or cayenne seasoning. Feel free to customize the recipe to your liking.
How Long Will They Last?
I have learned that proper storage is key to ensuring that my dishes stay fresh and delicious. While deviled eggs are a great make-ahead appetizer, it's important to note that the addition of avocado to this recipe may affect their shelf life. Typically, deviled eggs can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to two days. However, because avocados tend to oxidize and turn brown over time, I recommend making these avocado deviled eggs right before you plan to serve them.
In my experience, fresh is always best when it comes to avocados! To keep the avocado deviled eggs looking and tasting their best, I suggest preparing the hard-boiled eggs in advance and refrigerating them until you're ready to make the filling. When you're ready to serve, simply cut the eggs in half, scoop out the yolks, and mix in the mashed avocado, lime juice, red onion, cilantro, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Once the filling is smooth and well-combined, use a piping bag or a spoon to fill each egg white with the mixture. If you happen to have leftovers, I recommend storing them in an airtight container in the fridge for no more than a day. However, in my experience, these avocado deviled eggs are so tasty that there won't be any leftovers to worry about!
